THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TUTOR METHODS FOR
IMPROVING THE ABILITY OF READING START
CHILDREN DIFFICULTING LEARNING READING

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of tutor methods
peer type PALS in improving students' reading ability
having trouble learning to read grade 4 in SDIT Harapan Ummat
Purbalingga.
The research approach used is quantitative with type
experimental research with Single Subject Research (SSR) approach. Design
which is used is A – B. Subject of research is a student berkesulitan
learn specific grade 4, ie high school subject. Data collection is done
with initial reading, observation, and documentation tests. Data
obtained are analyzed through descriptive statistics and displayed in the form
chart.
Based on the results of the study showed an increase
the ability to read the beginning of children with learning difficulties in reading. For
the process of learning by peer tutor method of high school subject can run
well. Based on the initial reading test measurement occurs
improvement of the subject's reading ability At the baseline phase
ability to read the subject still shows the score 26. Then after
implemented the method of peer tutor reading ability of the subject increases
showed a score of 30 on the first test and score 40 on the second test.
Increasing the score of reading ability of the subject to benchmark
the influence of peer tutor methods on the ability to read the subject. There
score change shows that peer tutor method can improve
ability to read the subject of research. The test is twice aimed
to examine the effect of peer tutor methods.
In the implementation of the intervention the existence of the tutor is not just giving
a regular reading exercise but also a morally capable tutor
provides a stronger learning motivation. The spirit of the subject to be
reading higher. Overall application of peer tutor methods
have a positive influence to improve reading ability
the beginning of students having trouble learning to read at SDIT Harapan Ummat,
Purbalingga.
