Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe reading skills
and write Braille by blind class IV students at YAAT SLB-A Klaten.
This study uses a descriptive research method with an approach
qualitative and subject determination using Sempling's Purposive technique with
the characteristics of the subject of class IV blind students who do not have additional obstacles.
The research procedure used consisted of planning, conducting research,
data processing, and reporting; while data collection techniques
used include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data obtained
analyzed with qualitative descriptive techniques.
The results of the study were obtained, the subjects mastered as many as 9 indicators out of 20
the indicators studied or get a score of 45% and are included in the category
less skilled. 9 indicators controlled by the subject including reglet installation,
transfer position reglet, how to read Braille, using a little pressure, capable
read and search for the subject in the sentence, start writing Braille, position the stylus
when writing, write using the right hand, and the left hand guides the course of the stylus.
For indicators that are not mastered by the subject including the placement of reglets before
write, position the finger when holding the stylus, delete the writing, find out the function of the signs
read, read aloud, read problems, find out configuration codes
Braille, read and search for the points in the paragraph, write the configuration with
right, make double Braille points or less, and write punctuation.
