Abstract

Guided Field Practice (PLT) is an integrated program carried out by Yogyakarta State University (UNY), which must be followed by all education students at UNY. This PLT program is a means of applying knowledge that has been obtained by students in college. Students who have fulfilled the PLT requirements practice teaching directly at a designated school. In addition, the PLT program is one of the forms of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi which is community service which in this case is school. The schools and students of PLT UNY gotong royong, worked together, and worked together during the PLT to develop and advance schools. In addition, PLT activities are expected to provide experience and improve student skills as prospective teachers in teaching and learning activities and practices at school.
PLT activities at SMP Negeri 9 Yogyakarta start from 15 September to 15 November 2017. The PLT program includes school observations, classroom observations, teaching preparation, preparation of RPPs, preparation of instructional media, teaching practices, conducting school pickets, and development activities self, as well as other activities aimed at developing students to be ready to become qualified educators in the future. In the teaching practice phase, students prepare learning tools that include Learning Implementation Plans (RPP) and learning media. Teaching practices began on September 15 to November 15, 2017. At the implementation stage, Indonesian Language and Literature Education Department students were given the opportunity to teach in grades VIII E and VIII F SMP N 9 Yogyakarta with a time allocation of 3×40 minutes for each meeting. The material presented consisted of two texts namely Poetry Text and Explanatory Text. The problem encountered by PLT students in Yogyakarta Public Middle 9 is the problem of classroom management.
The results obtained from PLT activities are that students get hands-on experience related to planning, learning tools, learning processes and classroom management. Students can develop their knowledge and teaching skills in accordance with the scientific fields taken. Class management really needs to be improved so that students can receive learning material well. One of the things that needs to be done to improve classroom management includes building good communication between PLT students and students, so that collaboration between educators and students is established when carrying out classroom learning activities. Thus, this PLT activity is expected to provide benefits for the school as well as for the students themselves to develop abilities and apply knowledge of practical classroom teaching practices that are useful in the future.
